# Logic Gate IC's

## Introduction:

A Digital Logic Family consists of a group of integrated circuits or other essential elements, compatible blocks that can be combined in various ways to perform a series of "yes-no" decision based on the presence of "yeses" and "no's" on various inputs or taking into account the history if previous "yeses" and "no's" gone before.

Depending on how you interconnect these logic blocks, you can build a computer, calculator, an electronic music system, or thousands of other possibilities.

NOTE: 0=0V(Low), 1=5V(High)

## IC 7400

• It is a quad two input NAND gate. All four NAND gates may be used independently. On any gate if either of the input is 'Low' then the Output is 'High'. When both the inputs are 'High' then the output is 'Low'.

## IC 7402

• It is a quad two inputs NOR Gate. All these gates may be used independently. On any gate with either input 'High' the output is low. When both the input are 'Low' the output is 'High'.

## IC 7404:

• It is a two input NOT Gate also known as Hex Inverter. There are six inverters which may be used independently. On any one inverter if the input is 'Low' then the output goes 'High'. Similarly, if the input is 'High' then the output goes 'Low'.

## IC 7408:

• It is a quad two input AND gate. All four AND gates may be used independently. On any gate if either of the input is 'Low' then the Output is 'Low'. When both the inputs are 'High' then the output is 'High'.

## IC 7432:

• It is a quad two input OR gate. All four OR gates may be used independently. On any gate if either of the input is 'High' then the Output is 'High'. When both the inputs are 'Low' then the output is 'Low'.

## IC 7486:

• It is a quad two input Ex-OR gate. All four Exclusive-OR gates may be used independently. On any gate when one input(Not Both) is 'High' then the Output is High. When both the inputs are either 'Low' or 'High' the output is 'Low'.

• A light-activated burglar alarm
• An automatic watering system
• A push-button lock
• Burglar alarm
• Timer/Counter section of microcontroller(ex: 8051)
• Shift registers etc.
